Established during the great meeting at Wolf’s Dragoon Headquarters in Outreach on January 3051, Shadow Company is the mixed son of the Wolf Dragoons, Kell Hounds and Comstar. The sole purpose of this unit was to hit the Clans hard and try to slow their invasion while a more permanent solution was being thought up.
The finest young pilots were pooled together from these three divisions and were brought to Terra in August of 3051. There, they formed a command system and were given the best training the Inner Sphere had to offer. Under the watchful eye of Precentor Martial Anastasius Focht, they were given Intel about Clan weapons and fighting styles, practiced these fighting styles in combat simulators, and got to see, first hand, the devastating power of Clan technology.
Once their training was complete, they were assigned mechs which included a handful of actual clan mechs (The Black Hawk, the Dasher, the Dragonfly, and the Fenris). They were then sent out to the Arc Royal for briefing and mission assignments. Once briefed and deployed, it didn’t take long for the Shadow Company to make a significant impact on the clan invasion.
They struck hard at Clan garrisoned worlds, beating many of the old clan pilots and elementals at their own game. In no time they had freed (at least temporarily) worlds from three of the major crusader clans; the Hells Horses, the Clan Wolf, and Jade Falcon.
During this time, they also claimed what was an equivalent to a “star” in mechwarrior bondsmen from the Hell’s Horses. Having actual clan pilots in their roster helped them to become an even more powerful threat. These raids came to an end, however, in early April of 3052. They were given a new mission. It was time for them to prove their mettle in another fashion.
It was time for the battle of Tukayyid.Shadow Company was masked into becoming part of the Fifth Army of Comstar. There they were placed in the Racice Delta to face one of the most deadly of clans, the Smoke Jaguar. Focht specifically placed the Shadow Company there because he wanted to bring shame to the Jaguar. He wanted revenge for what the Jags did against the city of Edo and he got it. Shadow Company aided in annihilating the First Jaguar Cavaliers, sustaining very few casualties in the process. The victory on Tukayyid put the clan invasion on hold and this brought a new challenge upon Shadow Company.
With the invasion paused, they now needed to dwell upon what direction to take the unit being their prime directive was fulfilled. They instantly dismissed the thought of disbanding the unit and returning to their former units. Instead they chose to become an extension of the Wolf Dragoons. More then just a farming unit for the Dragoons, Shadow Company became an actual part of WD.
While under the direct command of Wolf, they were given the rights to negotiate their own contracts, station and deploy at will, and purchase and sell equipment. This freedom lead them to be considered independent by most other mercs and houses even though the WD emblem was now visible on every armor and mech. This pact was very short lived however. The jealousy of other WD mercs and the arrogance of many of Shadow Company's pilots led Wolf to quickly cut official ties with the unit. The release of the unit quickly caught the attention of the Lyran Alliance Archon. Katrina quickly picked up the merc unit and deployed them in missions that fit their style, causing chaos behind enemy lines.
